Clayton is a second-year student at the University of Montana and former restaurant worker. He is reporting and photographing issues related to food security and its relationship to culture in Bangladesh, with a primary focus on fishing.

Food supply and demand is his primary focus, with an emphasis on smaller rural fishing operations. He is also examining parts of the greater, near-national supply chain.

Fish have long been a staple of the Bangladeshi diet, but the impacts of climate change on the efficacy of fishing throughout the country is a concern for both rural and urban populations.

Faced with a significant decline in fish populations, rural fishermen are having to find other work to put food on the table.

Clayton will pursue the question of culture and resiliency: How does a country stay resilient and preserve its culture when basic resources — that have a deep cultural identity of their own — become unreliable?
