I’m a sophomore studying journalism with a print and writing focus. I grew up in the Black Hills of South Dakota, surrounded by women and uplifted by my three sisters. In my free time, I spend time with the people I love, in the outdoors or listening to good music. I am a passionate writer, poet and musician, attracted to art associated with women’s stories and adversities.
In Bangladesh, I will be reporting on how climate change disproportionately affects women and children, particularly through the lens of water, sanitation and hygiene. I am primarily interested in the lives of women in rural areas in Bangladesh, including Khulna and the Sundarbans, and their work collecting water, a job that falls mostly to women and girls.
I am interested in covering climate and the environment through the lens of femineity because I find that’s where my passions and my knowledge lie. Growing up around women has inspired me to tell the stories of those who are often silenced. I hope to share the stories of women’s perseverance so other women can stand strong too.
